Unit 8
Describe the scale, scope and appeal of the two different visitor attractions
Scale
Alton Towers is a national attraction as it is the UK’s most famous theme parks. Alton
Towers attracts visitors from all over the UK. It means that Alton Towers gets many visitors.
Alton Towers is a private sector organisation. Alton Towers is part of the Merlin
Entertainment Groups which is a short break destination and also the resort offers one of
the world's leading theme parks.

Advantages and disadvantages
An advantage of this type of ownership is that profits can be made by selling more products
and services in the attraction.
Another advantage of private ownership is that it keeps you in control of your company.
A disadvantage of this type of ownership is that private companies can't trade on a stock
exchange, face more legal obligations and have higher costs.
Another disadvantage of this type of ownership is that the private sector can be very
competitive and organisations need to ensure that their products and services carry on
attracting new and repeat customers.

Alton Towers is ground breaking because of the rides they have.
