COOLING CURVES

, Undertake calorimetry to study cooling curves
Introduction:
A thermometer is equipment that takes measurements
and specifies the temperature.
There are two most common types of thermometers.
A liquid alcohol thermometer- is used to specify
temperature, it is slower to display the temperature as
you need to wait for the liquid alcohol to heat and rise.
It has a can curacy of more than 0.5%. [2]
A digital thermometer- is an advanced instrument to
show the indicated temperature, unlike the liquid
alcohol thermometer. It has an accuracy of 0.1°C. [2,3]
What is calorimetry?
Calorimetry is a container that can be used with
thermometers such a as beaker or polystyrene cup to
measure the temperature during the reaction. It can be
used to monitor the endothermic and exothermic
reactions and to measure the specific heat capacity.
[4]
What are cooling curves?
It is a line graph showing the phase changes while the
temperature decreases. To plot the graph in a cooling
curve the temperature should be against time, in y-axis
should be labelled in temperature and in the x-axis
should be labelled in time.
How to calibrate the liquid alcohol thermometer
and temperature probe thermometer and their
importance?
