1.1 The word education originates from the Latin word “educere” which
means to bring out what is within. It is concerned with drawing out the human
values that are present in every human being. Education is the process of
acquiring knowledge, acquiring the skills needed to reason and judge and
preparing peoples intellect for their future. Education is a process that that
never stops changing and it is a form of socialization.
1.2 Sociology of education is the scientific analysis of the social patterns involved in
the education system. It is the study of education from a sociological
perspective. It also forms part of the discipline of education. It increases the
understanding of the relationship between society and educational institutions
at macro and micro levels.
1.3a) Macrosociological means a large-scale analysis has been done with
emphasis on populations and social systems.
b) Microsociological means a small-scale analysis has been done on the
behaviour of people in small groups and in order to understand their actions.
1.4 This aim could be taught in the classroom by:
Giving learners vocational education.
Developing the physical and mental skills of learners.
Teaching learners to be adaptable.
