Unit 8: Promoting Public Health

Task 1:
P1: Explain the strategies used to develop public health policy in order for it to meet its
aim.
Public health is the process of assisting people with their health and minimising the
problems that can aggravate health or negatively impact public health and wellbeing.
Geographical limitations can affect access to health care, for example. Public health
addresses a variety of concerns such as obesity, smoking, drinking and dementia, disease
prevention and encouraging a healthy lifestyle. Because it covers a wide range of issues this
means it is expected to improve people’s health. Public health is increasingly appearing in
the media more often. This increases its exposure to more people, allowing people more
insight into the public’s health.
Hazardous waste management in England 2011 for pollution and recycling is one technique
used to build public health policies. This plan aims to reduce the number of plastic that is
disposed each year. Plastic is dangerous for health, causing cancer and lung infections, and
should not be consumed. One public health measure that resulted from this was the
introduction of a 5p single-use plastic bag charge to limit the amount of plastic thrown away
and the demand for plastic bags.
Another technique is for food safety and obesity, since it is critical to provide children with a
nutritionally healthy life in order to prevent future problems. For example, the food
standard agency assesses all food establishments based on food cleanliness, food handling,
and food safety.
Another technique is screening programmes, which are tests that are used to determine
the percentage of people who have disease but do not show symptoms. It helps to prevent
disease by recognising symptoms early, making it easier to treat and reducing the overall
risk of mortality from the condition. Because the government wants everyone in the UK to
be healthier and live longer by 2023, the 'making life better strategies framework 2013-
2023' is critical for this approach. 3 out of every 200 women who are screened are
diagnosed with a cancer that they would not have discovered without screening and that is
life threatening. As a result of establishing a policy that requires mandatory screening tests
for everyone who qualifies, the government can help avoid premature deaths and thereby
keep everyone healthy.

, P2: Explain how monitoring information to determine patterns of health and ill health is
used by government to inform the creation of public health policy.

Monitoring the nation's health and well-being is critical. Local, regional, and governmental
departments are able to put in place the required resources by closely monitoring disease
outbreaks or the growth in the occurrence of illnesses that are extremely harmful for health.
Statistics are summaries of health-related data. They are utilised to detect various trends in
health in numerous locations in order to determine where further effort is required. For
