Book: Looking For Alaska
I am going talk about the book looking for Alaska, the book was first published in 2005.

- The author
The author is john green, he is American. He has also written the fault in our stars, paper
town and turtles all the way down. Some of his books are filmed, like looking for Alaska and
the fault in our stars.

- The title
The title is looking for Alaska. But it isn’t about finding her, it is about finding out who she
was and what happened to her. The book is parted in two parts ‘’before’’ and ‘’after’’ and in
the ‘’before’’ Miles, the main character, is finding out who Alaska is and in ‘’after’’ he wants
to find out what happened to her.

- The genre
The book is classified as ‘’young adult fiction’’, but it can also be counted as a romance book.

- The main theme of the book.
There are many themes mentioned in the book such as: guilt, independence, meaning of life
and finding yourself. But the main theme is death because that is basically were the whole
story revolves around, and that’s because there are a few deaths mentioned in the book.

- What does the author want to bring across.
John Green want us to learn that you can’t outrun death, it’s not possible. You will never
know when your time comes, but he wants us to know that we should never regret the
things we do or say to someone, because they could be your last.

- When and were does it take place
The story is mostly set at Culver creek, which is the boarding school and it’s surrounding
areas. But in the beginning of the book it’s set at miles ‘s house, for thanksgiving at chips
trailer. For a funeral they go to Vine Station, which is a neighbouring town. And for a few
parts of the book a road is a part of the setting.
The story is set in 2015, so It is a few years back, but it’s still the modern time.

- Main characters
One of the main characters is Miles Halter. he is a junior in high school who is obsessed with
the last words of death people and memorises them. He knows many last words, but he will
never know hers. Miles wasn’t popular at his old school and he didn’t have any friends. The
only reason why miles went to Culver creek was to look for his great perhaps, but instead he
made friends. In short if people were rain, he would be a drizzle.

Then we have Alaska young, Alaska is the wild moody, unpredictable girl who captures miles
attention and heart the first time he sees her. Alaska is the kind of girl on campus who deals
cigarettes. And while everyone smokes for fun, she smokes to die. When you would look at
her room, you would see a girl who loves books. Alaska is the whole year busy trying to find
out how to escape the labyrinth and finding out what it actually is. And while miles would be
a drizzle, she would be hurricane.

And lastly we have chip martin, or as he is called ‘’the colonel’’, chip and his mother don’t
have a lot of money, so he likes to make fun of the weekday warriors, aka the rich kids who
