1. When I was busy (besig) the other day (nou die dag), I suddenly (skielik)
had the strangest (vreemdste) thought (gedagte) … I immediately
(onmiddellik) had to run (hardloop) to the room (kamer) to determine
(vas te stel) whether my thoughts (gedagtes) were completely
(heeltemal) ridiculous (belaglik). It all started (begin) when I
remembered (onthou) my dream from the previous (vorige) evening
(aand), a strange (vreemde) dream, which would not have any (geen)
meaning (betekenis) for a normal person (mens). It started like this …
2. I dreamt about Kous and Pel. Well, the two were trapped/confined
(vasgekeer) the whole day (heeldag) in a pair (paar) of shoes
(skoene), hidden (weggesteek) under a trouser’s legs (broekspyp) and
the two (tweetjies) started to complain (kla) about their boring
(vervelige) life (lewe) and how it is the same (dieselfde), day after day.
First, they are on a person’s feet, then inside (binne-in) the shoes, after
that they are thrown in the washing basket (wasmandjie), then in the
washing machine (wasmasjien), then on the washing line (draad), then
in the nice session rolled together (inmekaar gerol) and lastly (laastens)
again the separation (skeiding) on the two feet … and so it goes on the
whole (hele) time. In any case (alle geval), as it often (dikwels) goes
when a person (mens) has too much time to think, the two decided
(besluit) to go through a trial separation. And was that a drama for you!
Kous says to Pel that he will go (waai), but Pel says no, he wants to
leave (waai) because he wants to see the world and Kous is too boring
(vervelig). Pel thinks that Kous just (net) wants to (wil) lay under the bed
and do nothing (niks). Eventually (uiteindelik), after an argument
(stryery), they decided (besluit) that Pel will leave (waai), basically
(basies) because Pel left (gelos) Kous in the shoe and this way Pel
could (kon) escape (ontsnap) without (sonder) Kous stopping him.
3. Kous then laid like this for a long while (ruk) on the cupboard (kas),
because there wasn’t space (plek) for a single (enkel) sock (kous) in
the drawer (laai) and besides (buitendien): what would be the point
(punt)? But Kous wasn’t stupid, o no!!! He began a campaign (veldtog)
to make all the other (ander) socks (kouse) just (net) as unhappy
(ongelukkig) as what he was. And one by one (een vir een), the socks
disappeared (verdwyn) and Kous’s outcast (uitgeworpene) group
became bigger and bigger, on top of the cupboard (kas), until they
were an entire (hele) colony (kolonie) on top of the cupboard and
took over (oorgeneem) my room … like monsters! Luckily (gelukkig) I
