AND GUIDELINES
NB PLEASE PARAPHRASE YOUR OWN WORK
1.1 Describe “good teaching” to someone who is not in the field of education. (3)
Good teaching is no longer about assisting students in accumulating knowledge from the teacher; it is
now about assisting students in making sense of new information (from whatever source), integrating
new information with their existing ideas, being aware of their own thinking and learning processes,
and applying their new understandings in meaningful and relevant ways.
A desire to share your love of the subject with the students, the ability to explain the content clearly,
the ability to engage with students at their level of understanding, and the ability to make the
material being taught lively and fascinating are all characteristics of good teaching. Teaching should
be as much about passion as it is about logic. It's about inspiring children not only to study, but also to
teach them how to learn in a relevant, meaningful, and memorable way. It's all about taking pride in
your work, having a passion for it, and sharing that passion with everyone, but especially your kids.
