1. Question : Student Answer: Instructor Explanation: Points Received: Comments: (TCO 7) What is your final plan to present to the president? What changes did you decide to implement? My financial plan to the President with changes I would implement are: I would end cut foreign affairs by half to $17 billion Cancel the weapons program of $19 billion Eliminate the carbon tax of $40 billion Eliminate the National sales tax of $41 billion Eliminate the Social security retirement age $13 billion Eliminate the Medicare eligibility age $8 billion Eliminate the Payroll tax $50 billion Eliminate millionaire's tax $50 billion Eliminate the estate tax $50 billion Reduce federal workforce $12 billion $300 billion total Refer to your budget proposal and remember that your suggestions must total $300 billion. 5 of 5 Question 2. Question : Student Answer: Instructor Explanation: Points Received: Comments: (TCO 7) Please explain why you chose the options that you did. Some of these option I chose I believed can be completely eliminated and some I think can be reduced. Not everyone will be happy because it is impossible to please everyone across the board. Most of the eliminations I chose to cut were for lower end millionaire's. I believe the upper wealthier millionaire's should pay more into the system but what about someone who just becomes a millionaire and right off the bat they have to pay a tax? I do not believe that we need a national sales tax. Increasing the ages of medicare and social security ages are just wrong. We need less payroll tax for the common worker. Refer to your budget and explain the reasoning behind each selection. 5 of 5 Question 3. Question : Student Answer: (TCO 7) How will your decisions affect the elderly, the poor, the rich, and national security if implemented? The decisions I chose were for the elderly's retirement age which should not be increased. As for the poor we do not need any increase in taxes we are already taxed enough. I believe banks and upper millionaire's need to pay more into the system. As for National security I did not take it into consideration because we need this. Instructor Explanation: Points Received: Comments: Refer to the decisions you made and consider their ultimate impact on each of these specific groups. 5 of 5 Question 4. Question : Student Answer: Instructor Explanation: Points Received: Comments: (TCO 7) Was covering the hypothetical budget gap more or less difficult than you expected? Please explain. This was more difficult for me because for one it was difficult to come to a $300 billion budget. Implementing and eliminating programs is not easy when it comes to jobs and taxes. Less taxes are always good but a loss of jobs is not. I believe those that can should pay more in taxes but those that don't make much of anything in money should have their taxes reduced greatly. This was difficult for me because every program is important and there are reasons for the programs. Compromises are difficult. Refer to the decisions you made and consider the process you went through in making them. 5 of 5 Question 5. Question : Student Answer: Instructor Explanation: Points Received: Comments: (TCO 7) Which of your decisions might be perceived as politically motivated? Why? I do not believe the decisions I made were politically motivated because I am looking into it from the outside with no inside information. Meaning I am not a Congressman or Senator. I believe the more money you have such as the rich you have more options and the poor do not have the means to know their options. Refer to the decisions you made and consider their political ramifications. 5 of 5 Question 6. Question : (TCO 7) What are the trade-offs of preserving some programs while protecting others? Student Answer: As stated above I cannot please everyone and some will suffer such as federal employees. We need taxes cut across the board. This would affect everyone greatly. More money means more goods and services being purchased. Some programs will suffer while other are not being affected but that doesn't mean it cannot be fixed. Instructor Refer to the decisions you made and consider their impact. Explanation: Points Received: 5 of 5 Comments: Question 7. Question : (TCO 7) How do your decisions result in a marginal benefit to society so that they can outweigh the marginal cost to society? Student Answer: I believe these decisions I made will benefit society and the economy. Stimulated the economy and the people which the government represents should be a good thing not a bad one. Less taxes from the poor and increasing taxes for the upper millionaire's. As with all thing's time will tell but I believe eliminating these cuts will outweigh the marginal cost to society. Instructor Refer to the decisions you made and make a case as to why their benefit Explanation: outweighs their cost to society. Points Received: 5 of 5 Comments: Question 8. Question : (TCO 7) Did doing this exercise change your feelings about the budget debate in Washington? If so, how? If not, why not? Student Answer: Yes this did change my feelings about the budget debate in Washington. Just right now I over heard the news speak of a government shutdown again because both sides of the isle cannot agree on should or should not be implemented or eliminated from the budget. I am hopeful that our representatives will come to some kind of agreement for us all. Just doing this TCO showed me how hard it is to come to an agreement while not hurting other programs if I was involved in a real congressional budget debate. Instructor Refer to the decisions you made and reflect upon the budgeting process. Explanation: Points Received: 5 of 5 Comments:
