Cooperative learning is a strategy that is used with a group of learners that are learning
together to enhance their learning, improve their learning and experience and make them
understand the subject’s content
Benefits of cooperative learning:
• You gain leadership and have decision making skills
When learners work and learn together, they learn in a group, all students add their
opinions and discussions when learning, this allows learners to choose the correct
opinions and indicate which answer is correct or not, this enhances learners’
leadership in the group and decision-making skills. Learners discuss which answer
has more information, is better or how to add different people’s opinions. Students
are working towards a common goal, which is learning together and understanding
the content this therefore becomes a work activity valued by other students.
Students learn to respect other colleagues’ opinions and discussions.
• Students become motivated to help one another learn
When students work together in a group, they become motivated to help each
other, learners that do understand the work help learners that don’t understand the
work or show an easier method to get an answer.
• Enhancement in communication skills
When learners work together, there is an enhancement in communication skills,
learners talk about their problems, discuss their opinions. Learners learn how to
speak more productively and more respectfully towards peers. Communication skills
and commitments allows learners to be on track with their work and there is
efficient teamwork
• Higher self-esteem and confidence
When learners work together it increases their confidence, learners add their
opinions and discussions. When learners express and ideas and add their opinions is
increases their confidence.
