Workplace
[ABC College]
,Introduction
In this presentation, I will describe what an organisation needs
to consider when identifying its training needs. I will discuss
on the types of training and development needed at different
levels in an organisation.
Scenario: ABC College has plans to expand by offering A
Levels, more Apprenticeships and provision for younger
learners (Key Stage 4 ) and wants guidance on planning and
managing a training programme. This may require existing
staff to develop new skills, teach on different programmes
and may include training new staff. At a departmental level
there may be changes to jobs and new procedures introduced.
, Training needs & skills audit
Training is a key strategy for human resources in order to achieve organisational objectives.
It is required to cover essential work-related skills, techniques and knowledge in the
workplace. As a result, ABC College is somehow dependant on the skills of its workforce to
remain competitive by providing the best possible teaching, of which training is essential.
In order to identify training needs in the college, a successful training needs analysis or
skills audit is required to identify those who need training and determine what type of
training is needed. This process is essential as it is counter productive to offer irrelevant
training or even training to individuals who do not necessarily need it. Thus, in other
words, the training analysis process, helps put training resources to good use. When the
college introduces new A-Level programmes, a skills audit will be necessary in order to
determine whether he existing members of staff have the adequate skills to teach these
particular subjects and fill potential vacancies effectively. If not, then the college could
work with them through training or mentoring in order to address these weak points and
improve into a stronger workforce.
In addition to this, the college might have to train its employees regarding how to use the
equipment and technology such as smart boards, projectors, eprogress, moodle… The staff
will also have to be made aware of any changes regarding the exam boards such as
marking schemes, controlled assessments; so that they provide students with up-to-date
information regarding their courses and auditors might be asked to come in to verify
whether procedures are going as planned. Moreover, with the increasing stress on laws
regarding children, employees will have to be trained on how to react and deal with
students with disabilities and special needs and how to deal with student behaviours…
