, National Certification Exam Study Plan
A study plan is essential for my success at Walden. When I graduate, I plan on submitting my
application to take the National Certification Exam to practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health
Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Creating a study plan will help me finish up my progress goals
and task. I find organizing beneficial to my mental health because it helps reduce stress caused
by mess and procrastination.
After taking the certification review test, I organized my areas of strengths and weaknesses.
I will also outline my tasks and goals associated with the timeline, which will help me prepare to
take the actual national certification exam. During this course, I will utilize any available
resources to help increase my knowledge.
Strengths and Weakness
Before taking the test, I knew many areas I needed more knowledge. Because I had
worked as a psych nurse before, I was more familiar with some topics than others. At my
previous job, I had to explain the medication multiple times to the client, increasing my
knowledge in pharmacology. With this gained knowledge, the pharmacology and
assessment section was my greatest strength and advanced practice skills. Even though I
have not worked with children or adolescents, this was a need-to-learn section. Being an
RN has given me experience in these different areas for the past several years. During my
clinical, neither of my preceptors used the different scales. Reading more on the different
types of the psychometrical tool will help me when I interview my patient. I performed
well overall in the diagnosis and treatment section, but sometimes I have difficulty
distinguishing between different disorders, such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc.
