, Provide a brief synopsis of the social problem and policy you identified.

The social problem that I focused on throughout this quarter was racial injustices,

specifically those racial injustices affecting brown and black individuals. While addressing racial

injustice I decided to focus on the “stop and frisk” policy that many individuals are familiar

with.

Within my findings, I was able to determine that in Chicago alone, the stop and frisk

policy was considered an “unlawful” policy that was affective the life of hundreds of brown and

black individuals around the city.

Describe the steps of your project:

Step 1: In unit 2 we were able to identify a social problem.

Step 2: In unit 3 we got the opportunity to understand policy review

Step 3: In unit 4 we focused on issue statement and the identification of a policy.

Step 4: In unit 5 we addressed the agendas and steps for activating change.

Step 5: In unit 5 we focused on our social advocacy proposal.

Step 6: In unit 9 we got the opportunity to write a letter to our representative highlighting the

social issue we selected within our coursework.

How did your experiences as a social work professional and your own goals for advocacy

inform your selection of a social problem?

Throughout my work as a social worker I have gotten the opportunity to work with a lot

of individuals that have been directly impacted by racial injustices, those racial injustices made it

much more difficult for them to obtain resources, to be targeted and in many instances, be killed.
