, Introduction
Practicum could be a very difficult, and demanding experience for most nursing students, but
with ardent ascertainment, and perseverance, as well as preceptor’s assistance, one can
successful complete the learning experience. I started my first practicum at the Excelsior
Express Clinic here in Belton, Missouri, and I was able to identify areas that I am strong, as well
as areas that require improvements. I worked very hard enough by seeking resources that will
support me, and enable me to make necessary improvements in my areas of weakness. I had an
amazing preceptor who was able to assist me achieve my goals, and make necessary
improvements through her ongoing feedbacks. Regardless of this, I was able to set forth some
fundamental goals and objectives which I endeavored to accomplish through the help of my
preceptor. Some of my set goals include doing all my best to learn about how to analyze labs as
well as learning about the pharmacological process behind certain treatments. This will be
accomplished through learning from my preceptor, and observing other health care workers, and
stick to their constructive criticisms
During this practicum, there were some challenges that I faced while caring for patients from
diverse cultural background, but with the help of my preceptor, I was able to overcome them
while utilizing the available resources. Firstly, I was fortunate to care for a 20-year-old male who
was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at age 15. He was going to the children mercy clinic, but he
was later transferred to the adult clinic. The patient’s mother and father had divorced, and he was
living with his grandmother. There was no insurance, and there was no one to step in and take
great care of him. He fell out of remission; he was throwing up, and could not keep food. He was
pale, and was experiencing diarrhea, and stomach ache. The patient’s grandmother brought him
