Public health has evolved drastically and is what it is today because of the events in
medical history. In the Victorian era, due to not having the knowledge of protecting
disease outbreaks , many outbreaks happened frequently e.g. typhoid, influenza and
cholera and as a result many people had died due to bad sanitation. For instance The
great stink of london was a sewage connected to the thames which gave many
diseases. Edwin Chadwick helped improve uks cleanliness for what it is today and
prevented diseases because he made a report called ‘report on the sanitary
conditions on the labouring population of great britain’. He realised the connection
that bad sanitation led to lower life expectancy. The government prioritised good

, sanitation so they came up with a plan called public health. In 1842 , Chadwick
issued a report detailing the problems of the working class living in terrible
conditions, because of this many working class people were opposed to working due
to the high risk of getting diseases. Chadwick tried to make changes e.g local taxes
improving housing conditions by allowing the working-class to have access to
cleaner water, getting rid of sewage and other rubbish off the streets. This was when
the 1848 act was implemented and had made a change to public health. Thus why
Edwin Chadwick had improved public health for what it is today.Sir Edwin Chadwick |

his theory. He gathered that cholera was spread through dirty water. Snow gathered
data where the deaths wa shappened and concluded that the cause of it was the
water pump on Broad street. Later on snow got rid of the handle, because of this, the
death toll has lessened drastically. This impacted public health as it improved
people's health and helped question the Chadwick idea of installing clean water.

Beveridge report-In 1942, Sir William Beveridge had published a report which
discussed five ‘Evil giants’ in society.he stated that five evil giants were squalor,
ignorance, want, idleness and disease. The report discussed that the post war needed
fundamental change. He recommended that the government find different ways to
lessen diseases. It stated that those who worked would be taxed a certain amount of
