Unit 19 P3

Define the attributes and skills needed by a Team leader (P3)

Leadership – Leadership has the specific skills that every leader needs to do. The most critical aspect of
the challenge will be completed by the leaders, who will affect progress. A leader's primary duty should
be to encourage a group of people to work together for a common goal. In a business environment, this
may involve leading staff and colleagues with an appropriate plan to meet the company's needs, as well
as providing encouragement and feedback to employees as they perform challenging tasks. It is
important to distinguish between management and leadership. The main difference is that management
is more about dealing with individuals who work for them and ensuring that the tasks are well
accomplished with the resources they have been given efficiently. Leadership is more related to taking
responsibility further, as it involves ensuring that things and tasks are done well and that people
understand and believe in your vision and work with you to achieve your goals.

It is a job to be a manager. Managers shall implement the practices of the organization. It's a role to be a
leader. Leaders guide and inspire you. Their fulfilment is to bring about positive change. A good leader
puts the interests of his followers ahead of his own and measures success by whether his followers are
better off.

Why is strong leadership important?
People look to leaders to guide them in their actions. Good leaders are role models for the
people they lead, motivating them, supporting them and facilitating communications among
them. In business, good leadership translates to long-term success with high morale and a high
rate of employee retention. In the military, stakes are high for leaders. Successes and failures
are not measured in dollars but in lives saved and lost. The importance of leadership in society
should not be underestimated. People need laws and rules to govern their actions.
Organizations of any size take on the personalities of their leaders. Good leadership helps shape
a positive attitude, promotes harmony and facilitates maximum productivity.
Why is strong leadership important
Leaders are looked to for guidance in their behavior. Good leaders serve as role models for the
citizens they lead, inspiring, empowering, and promoting contact. Good leadership in the
workplace leads to long-term productivity, high morale, and high employee retention. This
therefore makes having a good business leader very important for a business as being
productive, having high morale staff, and high employee retention for instance helps a business
such as Tesco to save a lot of money; this is because having a work force with high morale
makes them more productive thus lowering average costs for Tesco, whilst having high
employee retention means that they can keep skilled workers rather than going through the
process of employing employees which may be very time consuming and costly for a business.
This helps a business therefore to run for efficiently thus helping them to be more profitable.
Leadership's value in society should not be ignored. To regulate their acts, people need laws
and regulations. Any organization, regardless of scale, adopts the identities of its leaders. Good
leadership fosters a positive mindset, fosters unity, and allows for optimum efficiency.
