Assessments by clinical professionals such as psychiatric mental health nurse

practitioners (PMHNP) must be organized and efficient to deliver the best possible treatment

regimen, adjunctive services referrals, and clinical research for those with substance abuse

challenges, according to Samet, Waxman, Hatzenbuehler, & Hasin, (2007). Substance abuse,

coupled with mental health, poses a problem for not only the client but also the healthcare

professional assessing, diagnosing, and treating such cases. Post-traumatic stress disorder

(PTSD) is most prevalent in the U.S. military (Neven, de Jong, & Pieterse, 2019). Reports

suggest that PTSD and substance abuse typically take place together, which leads to a decline in

productivity and family life, according to Neven, de Jong, & Pieterse, (2019).

The purpose of this assignment is to analyze the 5 Levy family videos, gain perspective

on what each family member perceives the problems to be, the therapist's suggestions to support

Mr. Levy, as well as how the supervisor of the therapist guides the therapist to help Me. Levy

and his family and compile a therapeutic approach to treat Mr. Levy's PTSD and substance abuse

disorder. Included will be my response to the complicated case of Mr. Levy, the reaction of the

therapist treating Mr. Levy. He expresses an issue with the situation and how deep breathing

techniques and exposure therapy affects Mr. Levy.

Perceptions

In episode one, both Mr. and Mrs. Levy are present, and their perceptions are vastly

different. Mr. Levy claims almost immediately; he has a problem that started during his tours to

Iraq. Mr. Levy tells Mrs. Levy that he is sick, which makes him cognoscente that he does have an

issue to deal with. Therefore, when he claims the path back to live a life he had with his family

before will no longer be the same and that it died back in Iraq. This makes Mr. Levy seem
