Dear Mr. Kruger
RE: Research proposal on the motivation volunteer work.
As a result, from the university’s request, the honours psychology students are expected to do a
research proposal for their studies. I am requesting to do research and therefore attaching a
proposal for a study which will attempt to gather more information on the issue of volunteer
work. The study will look into what motivates people to do volunteer work. They study will focus
on individuals between the ages of 20 – 30
I have chosen this specific topic because I have always been interested and intrigued by the
motivation and personalities of people who have engaged in volunteer work. All in overall I want
to investigate what pushes people do volunteer.
This study will be able to give able to give insight as to why people volunteer. It will also give
more insight as to what type of people are keen to volunteer, what type of volunteer work they
do and also are there any personal rewards they expect.
The study will be dependent on individuals who have already done volunteer work as I will be
engaging with them through interviews. With that being said, the estimated time frame for this
study to be a success is 3 – 4 weeks, as each individual will need an hour session with me, and
I also need time to analyse the data accordingly. The ethical guidelines for the study will need to
be approved by the university. The individuals will also have to give me their consent to be part

,of the study and this will be done by consent forms and ethical guidelines. The participants
information will be kept anonymous and confidential.
Thank you for taking your time to view my proposal. Please do not hesitate to contact me for
any further queries (give contact details)
I hope to hear from you soon.
Your sincerely
Unisa honours student.
