Of mice and men
The friends Lennie and George are going on a trip to California. They want to work on a farm to earn
money. They have together more jobs, but duo to the childish behaviour of Lennie, they had this job
not very long because they were soon thrown out.
After they sleep three days by a river, they decide to search for farms. They hope that they can work
immediately.
Finally, they find a farm in Soledad. They meet Candy here. Candy is an old guy; he works for years on
the farm. He can tell Lennie en George how to work on a farm. They also meet de son of the bose, his
name is Curley. Curley and Lennie’s relationship is not very good, Curley cannot bear Lennie being
taller than himself.
George knows that Lennie act like a child. He knows that Lennie cannot do anything about it. He
knows also that Lennie sometimes shows unexpected behaviour. He said Lennie that he has to hide
at the river when he does something and do not know what to do. Lennie can hide there to prevent
that people get mad at him.
A few moments later the boys meet the two men they work with, their names are Slim and Carlson.
George and Slim have a good relationship. George, Lennie, and Candy make big future. They decide
that they run in the future a farm, where they breed many rabbits as possible.
At the evening Curley comes rushing in. he asks where his wife is. Lennie is with his mind by his
dream about the farm and is laughing in himself. Curley thinks he is laughing at him and slaps him in
his face. Lennie hesitates, but finally grabs Curley’s fist. Lennie squeezes so hard that Curley must go
to the hospital.
Lennie goes watching puppies at the farm. He is playing with the puppy and when the puppy bite him
playfully, squeezes Lennie the dog par accidentally. Curley’s wife comes in. Lennie do not know what
to do and tell her about the puppy.
Curley’s wife tells Lennie that she does not love Curley. Lennie pats her curls. He makes her at some
point confused. Curley’s wife starts yelling. Lennie do not know what to do and before he knows it,
he has broken her neck. She is dead. Lennie decides to run away to the place at the river.
When candy comes to the place where Curley’s wife is he warns George. George thinks it is him fault
that he takes Lennie to the farm. Candy warns the other mans who comes to the stable. Slim looks at
the neck and understands that Lennie the most obvious suspect is. Curley is furious and will chase
Lennie and shoot him.
George tries to persuade the boys that Lennie goes to prison, but the men want Lennie dead.
Lennie is at the place by the river. He is waiting on George. He is in his mind talking with Aunt Clara.
Suddenly George comes out of the bushes. George and Lennie sitting at the river. George pulls a gun
out of his pocket; Lennie do not see that. He tells Lennie again about their future dreams and
meanwhile he shoots Lennie from behind through the head.
The main character is Lennie, he is a weird. He acts like he is a child. He cannot do anything about it.
Lennie comes with George to the farm and George take always care of Lennie in the whole book. I
think it is better for Lennie that he is dead because he killed a wife and a dog in one day.
