DNP 801 Topic 2 DQ 2
Using the PICOT format, formulate one evidence-based practice (EBP) question in correct format. Follow the selection guidelines in order to choose an appropriate topic idea that can be supported with empirical research. In 150-200 words, justify why this topic fits the PICOT guidelines and is worthy of additional investigation. Submit your PICOT question and supporting articles to the discussion forum for feedback. PICOT Question In radiology patients having a biopsy, what is the effect of nurse driven scheduling for pathology attendance on decreased sedation times compared with organizational driven scheduling of pathology attendance within 4-6 weeks? My PICOT question complies with the guidelines outlined by GCU PICOT Selection Guidelines (Grand Canyon University, 2018). My population meets criteria as I have chosen radiology patients having a biopsy. I have access to all radiology patients via my chosen clinical site, including all patients having a biopsy (Grand Canyon University, 2018). My intervention meets criteria as there will be no financial burden incurred and buy-in from my site has been established (Grand Canyon University, 2018). My comparison can be compared to the existing pathology attendance standard where 24 hour notice is required for pathology to attend a biopsy procedure (Grand Canyon University, 2018). Furthermore, sedation times can be tracked with my sites existing electronic charting system; therefore, provide accurate comparisons (Grand Canyon University, 2018). Sedation is administered by the nursing staff. Recognizing longer sedation times means an increased risk for patients to slip “into a deeper sedation than desired”, it is important I seek to find an alternative to the current method of scheduling pathology (Tuck, Riley, Krenzischek, & MacDonald, 2018, p. 85). Although I have not chosen a specific tool to use for objective outcome measuring, I believe a graph detailing sedation times would suffice. My timeline is 4-6 weeks. My goal is to have my project implemented within one month of introducing the idea, allowing ample time to collect the data (Grand Canyon University, 2018). Tuck, P., Riley, E., Krenzischek, D., & MacDonald, R. (2018). Evaluation of perceived importance, competence, confidence, and satisfaction in the implementation of moderate sedation by interventional radiology
