D129 Advanced Professional Roles and Values Task 1 - Nursing Philosophy Western Governors University
NURSING PHILOSOPHY 2 Nursing Philosophy Being a nurse in this day and age is a lot more involved that what it used to be and includes a lot more responsibility than what it once was. The professional nurse wears multiple hats in any position that is held. The professional nurse is many things but to name a few they are an advocate, an educator, a detective, researcher, a healer, and perhaps the most important a patient advocate. The Nursing Program Conceptual Model describes the professional nurse in two lights, one as a BSN and one as an MSN. Although there are many points that are similar, there are differences to each one. In this essay I will explore and demonstrate the various roles the nurse has that will focus on the nurse at the master’s level and include being the nurse detective, the nurse scientist and the nurse as a manager of the healing environment. [CITATION Kth20 l 1033 ] Nurse as Detective According to WGU’s Nursing Programs Conceptual Model the MSN role of being the nurse detective uses clinical imagination coupled with nursing science to judge and determine the consequence of subtle changes and deviations from expected patterns to prevent or control adverse outcomes. [CITATION Kth20 l 1033 ]. One of the model elements that can assist me in my role as an MSN nurse detective is leadership/education and teamwork/collaboration. The medical field is an everchanging fast pace field. It is up to the nurse detective to ensure they maintain up to date guidance, become familiar with any new regulations that are imposed on the health care community, as well as being current with educating ourselves on new procedures, new disease processes and treatments, and ensuring of being up to date on new aspects of disease
