Assignment C - Part 1
An Evaluation of Cutting Edge Advanced

 Use the checklist from unit 10 ('Evaluating course book material') to write a general evaluation
of the book.
 You won't be able to comment on all items as you only have one unit and the contents, but say
as much as you can.
 This must be presented as a coherent essay, not just a list.
 Then say whether you personally would like to use the book with an advanced class and why or
why not - this is just your opinion, so there is not a right or a wrong response to this part.
 You do not need to refer to the class described for Part 2 of this assignment.
 Write 300 - 500 words.

New Cutting Edge Advanced – An Evaluation:

After evaluating Cutting Edge Advanced course book, one thing immediately caught my
eye. The text and information on the page is a lot. Even as a native, first language English
speaker my eye struggled to focus, and I was not sure where to start reading on every new
page. I think for foreign students it would be better for the information on the page to be
spread out better so that they can understand fully what is going on.

The theme used in the course book, on my opinion, is very appropriate for C1-C2 adult
students with mixed nationalities. The information provided is relevant and the reader can
not only learn about English but improve their general knowledge while completing the
activities. The content of the course book covers skills that the students will need when
using their English in the public, which I think can only be advantageous to the students.
The materials and graded appropriately and follow in a logical manner. After completing
each unit, the student will have learnt a new English skill they can apply to their lives.

In the course book there is a lot of practice, but revision is lacking. There is also no sign of
a teacher’s book. The book has a lot of group work involved, but not a lot of teacher-
student activities. I think a few teacher-student activities could be very helpful, especially
with speaking, because the teacher can give the students feedback immediately and the
students do not have to wait until an activity is marked. In this course book there is a good
balance of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. There is a lot of speaking, but not
