Responsibility, i.e., close the tap if you open it, last one to leave the classroom should switch the lights off and if you eat chips throw your empty packet in the nearest bin. The school belongs to YOU. Making informed choices, if they know plants will die if chips packets surround the root, then they will refrain from littering. If they know that electricity and water wastage costs the school lots of money they will be more careful users of these resources. 2.4 The following decisions need to be taken by the school management: > Caretakers and prefects to ensure that learners do not litter. Check on taps and lights after recess and after school. > Implement stricter rules. Install cameras to identify culprits. > Arrange clean-up programmes. 2.5 Code of Conduct for Learners: > If a learner is caught throwing paper, he/she will have to pick up all the litter from a designated area as punishment. > The class that does not switch the lights off after school will be detained after school for a set time. > A demerit system will be in place for any learner caught for leaving the tap open. After 3 demerits the parent will be called to school and a discussion will take place.
