Dear reader,
Before you, lies my Critical Literature Review regarding the benefits of Vested outsourcing. This CLR
is written for the Module Integrated Facility Management in the third year Facility Management at
The Hague University of Applied Sciences. This research is based of nine mandatory subjects with
each at least one article. By analysing the sources about these topics and finding the differences and
similarities between them it was possible to make assumptions and conclusions.
After reading some of the mandatory articles, I was able to form a main question for this review.
However, I decided to change subject of the research after the article about Vested contracts piqued
my interest. By reading more about this subject I could form an adequate main question and truly
start my research. In order to answer this main question, I formed four sub questions, based on the
key elements in the main question. These elements also relate back to the mandatory articles.
During the process of writing this CLR I feel like I have learned a lot about the subjects of this
semester, like outsourcing, integrated facility management and added value. Additionally, by writing
this Review in English, I feel like my knowledge of the language grew and it became easier to write
pieces like these in English.
Hereby, I would like to thank teacher, who was my coach during this semester, who was able to
answer all questions and help me further in this review. Furthermore, I would like to thank my
classmates and friends, as they could help me out when I was stuck on something.

, 1 INTRODUCTION
It is in the nature of contracts to keep buyers and suppliers at arm’s length, as both parties want
contrasting things in term of costs. In order to create a true win-win relationship between the buyer
and the supplier, the Vested business model should be used.
With this Critical Literature Review numerous sources about the Vested model and related subjects
will be reviewed. This way it becomes clearer what exactly Vested is and how it works in practice.
Additionally, the benefits for an organisation will be described. In the last years, more and more
organisations have expressed interest into the outsourcing of their services, in order to reduce costs
and deliver better services for their employees. However, the Vested methodology might be the way
to truly add value for both parties, doing more than just reducing the costs.
In order to explore this methodology and its benefits even more, this became the main subject of this
Critical Literature Review. This resulted into the following main question:
“How are Vested contracts beneficial when outsourcing facility services?”
The sub questions that can help answer this main question are:
“What is the definition of facility services?”
“How is outsourcing described?”
“In what way are benefits be described?”
“What are Vested contracts?”
With these sub questions it is possible to answer the main question, as all terms will be clear. The
answering of the main question will be done in the conclusion. In order to answer the questions,
various sources are used. A minimum of nine of these sources come from the mandatory list of
sources. The reliability of the additional sources is verified by checking the author, the date of
publishing and the place of publishing. This way non-reliable sources can be discarded immediately.
