These two articles present two opposing views on mandatory school uniforms. In the
following, these two articles will be presented with the reasons used and finally, a
feasible solution to the two opinions will be presented.
As for the first article, "Schools Dress Codes and Uniform Policies" which is a type of
publication of the works compiled in Erics Publications, written by Anderson Wendell
and published in 2002 by the ERIC Clearinghouse on Educational Management.
This publication begins by stating that some people believe that requiring uniforms for
students helps improve student behavior, reduces the socioeconomic gap, and
increases student confidence.
However, it continues with other people commenting that requiring students to wear
uniforms infringes on the rights of students and that it is an expense for less affluent
families. These two ideas create a debate in the student environment (teachers,
administration, offices...). For this reason, during the article, different arguments are
shared defending the two opinions.
On the one hand, for example; a research made to 240 people related to the academic
environment is published where the following results are obtained. "About 85% of the
principals believed that some kind of dress code was necessary in their school. More
than half of the principals said their schools had formally adopted a dress code."
On the other hand, a source is provided where it is exposed that causes everyone to
look the same can contribute to misbehavior and rebellion....
