Reflection on Integumentary System/Skin Courtney Holmes DeVry University The integumentary system better known as the skin has several important functions. The integumentary system encompasses the whole human frame thus being the biggest organ. The integumentary system entails the skin and its annexes: hair, nails, sebaceous glands and sweat glands. The chief function of the integumentary system is to operate as a defensive barricade that saves our body from invasion of extraneous substances, bacteria, and averts dehydration. On top of guarding from desiccation, additionally the integumentary system aids with removal of excess goods and in the control of our body temperature. There are additional jobs of the integumentary system and the respectively structure encompassed in this organization has its specific benefit. In order for the integumentary system to function as it should, it must remain healthy and must be taking care of properly. William Shakespeare previously said, “The eyes are said to be the windows of the soul”. If you apply that same analogy to the skin, we can say the skin is the frame to the picture. We are judged by others and even our own critic concerning this frame. The skin's clearness of spots, creases, and tans is simply a support to their build of self-assurance. Possessing vigorous skin is a phase to self-confidence. Sleeping, eating, and drinking are good behaviors that is prime to the achieving healthy skin, thus adding to an individual’s confidence. As discussed early, the integumentary system has serval functions. We must protect and keep our skin health daily. Washing your face every morning and at night with mild soap (for some) and water is one way to keep your skin healthy. Regular bathing or showering aids removal of germs and prevent the growing of microbes that trigger body aroma. Another behavior that will help promote health skin is to dodge contact between your face and hands. Your hands are one of the most used appendages human has. They touch a lot of things that contains germs. Touching your face with your hands can create new microbes to the skin’s exterior. Washing your hands, or continuously carrying hand sanitizer, will help keep your hands clean. Finally, choosing the appropriate personal care merchandises will aid in preserving your skin. Most personal care products will stop the skin from becoming irritated or having an allergic reaction. .................................................continued..................................................
