Recruitment (internal and external) (step 1)
à Attract most competent talent
à Task of agent ---> determine most effective communication channels used for the
recruitment message
Internal recruitment:
à Done by transferring existing employee to new position/ promoting existing
employee
à Business may invite existing employees ---> done by searching employee files to
identify (based on skills, qualifications, experience) ---> or word by mouth
recommendations
à Alternative ---> post position on intranet/ notice board within business & invite
interested staff
à Current employees may be asked to recommend someone outside (internal +
external)
Advantages of internal recruitment:
à Improved employee morale
à Cost effective
à Employees past performance/ attitude is known
External recruitment:
à Advertised via agency (on internet/ traditional media)
à Business advertises in newspapers, trade journals, trade shows
à Approach schools, colleges, universities, educational institutions
à Not often with senior positions ---> may be sourced through looking at CV’s or “walk
ins”
à May be head-hunted ---> employee who works for competitor and asked to apply
Advantages of external recruitment:
à New ideas/ skills
à More affirmative action candidates
à Head hunted provides insight into competitors operations
à No infighting
