Drug overdoses involving death continue to progress and rise in the U.S. In 2017 alone, more than 70,200 drug overdoses contained an opioid and 700,000 have died as a result between (CDC, 2018). The average number of 130 individuals die daily due to an opioid overdose (CDC, 2018). The U.S. Department of Health and Human services, the increase of opioid prescriptions contributed to the extensive misuse of prescription opioids before it was known these medications were highly addictive. As physicians began to raise the number of prescriptions, the opioid crisis started getting bigger and out of control.
