Abortion is one specific bioethical issue I find to be interesting, important, and relevant. "It is a polarizing and divisible issue that raises discussions about morals, science, medicine, sexuality, autonomy, religion, and politics" (Bioethical Issues - Abortion). Abortion is a topic of ethical egoism for the fact that it is considered a moral act because it promotes the individual's long term interest. Women, and others who indorse abortions tend to consider their own self-interest, ignoring the fact that they are ending a life, as well as bashing and demeaning those who are not given the opportunity to give birth to a child. Regardless of the reasons a woman may have for deciding to abort a child – be it her age, finances, relationship issues, etc. – in no way is this just; on the contrary, this is in no regards to a woman placed in this predicament after being sexually abused. Virtue theory is an approach I choose to follow in this matter for the reason that women are not the only ones who endure mischief to their ethical characters through abortion.
