MY PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING
MY PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING 1 My Personal Philosophy of Nursing Submitter by Sophoria Lewis, RN In partial fulfillment of the requirements of Transition to Professional Nursing N3345 Jeanean Boyd, MSN RN March 11, 2017 MY PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING 2 My Personal Philosophy of Nursing According to the American Nurses Association, nursing is defined as, “Protection, promotion, and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2001, p. 7). It’s important that we sometime during our career need to stop for a moment and think about why we chose nursing in the first place. My philosophy as a nurse is that I will always continue learning, especially from the interactions with my fellow healthcare workers and my patients and their families. It is a must that I apply what I’ve learned to improve my skills as a nurse. I believe that education doesn’t end at graduation, rather it continues throughout your nursing career. Choice of Nursing As a kid, we all have dreams of what we wanted to become when we grow up, some firefighters, some teachers, doctors or lawyers. My desire as a kid was never to become a nurse. Throughout my young adult life, I was always drawn to helping people. During my early twenties, I continually found myself working jobs in the medical field, I realized that I should take advantage of the experiences I had obtained. I guess you can say nursing chose me. I saw nursing as a way to do the things that meant a lot in my life, along with my need to be financially stable. Nursing to me was a calling. Nursing is a career like no other, because we have a unique variety of skills and knowledge that can be used in many different areas. There are so many specialties in nursing that enables us to do what we love.
