line ie the gs in the previous sentence )
• Assimilasie (assimilation) samesmelting van twee woorde wat dan as een uitgespreek word
b.v hiedie as hierie (combination of two words pronounced as one word van die word
vannie
• Assonansie (assonance ) dieselfde vokaal word kort na mekaar in dieselfde versreel herhaal
b.v daar is geen geel lekkers nie ( the same vowel is repeated often in the same line ie saag
en maal
• Atmosfeer ( atmosphere ) die gevoel wat die leser krt as hy n gedig of storie lees bv gelukkig ,
hartseer , laggend .( the feeling a reader gets when reading a poem or a story )
• Ballade (ballad) : ’n Digvorm met sy eie spesi eke kenmerke, veral ’n refrein ( a form of
poetry with its own qualities especially a refrain)
• Beeldspraak ( metaphorical language) wanneer ons a prentjie of beeld gebruik om iets
anders baie beter te verduidelik ( when we use a picture or image to explain something else )

, • Beklemtoning ( emphasis ) ’n Woord wat belangrik is word op baie verskillende maniere
onder die leser se aandag gebring bv alleenplasing ,ellips, herhaling ( an important
word is brought to the attention to the reader in many ways )
• Boodskap (message ) die idee of gedagte wat die digter aan die leser gee om oor na te dink
(the idea or thought the poet gives to the reader to make him think about it )
• Elisie (elision) : wanneer ’n klank of klanke uit ’n woord weggelaat is bv hy’s word hy is
of hy’t word hy het ( when letters were left out from a word purposely )
• Ellips (elipses) woorde wat weggelaat is en word dan met drie punten/stippels/ gewys
( words that are left out and it is shown by three dots )
• Enjambement (enjambment ) een versreel gaan oor in die ander een sonder enige leestekens
( one line ows into the next line without any punctuation )
• Eufemisme ( euphemism ) die woord of idee word sag gemaak om nie mense se gevoelens
seer te maak nie ( the word or idea is made soft as to not hurt someones feelings I.e he
passed away instead of he died )
• Geïmpliseerd taal: wanneer iets unie direk gese is nie leser moet sy eie a eidings maak
( something is not said directly but implied reader must make their own assumptions )
• Haikoe ( haiku ) ’n Gedig bestaande uit 3 versreels en 17 lettergrepe . Lettergrepe is soos
volg : Reel 1-5 lettergrepe ; reel 2-7 lettergrepe; en reel 3-5 lettergrepe
• Herhaling /interatief (repetition) dieselfde worde of idee word oor en oor in dieselfde gedig
gebruik ( the same words or ideas are used again and again in the same poem )
• Inkeping (indentation)’n versreel staan verder van die kantlyn as ander versreels in die gedig
( a line further away from the margin as the other lines in the poem )
• Intertekstualiteit(intertextuality) die gedig verwys direk of indirek na ’n ander skryfstuk ( the
poem refers directly or indirectly to another piece of work )
• Inversie /omgekeerde woordorde (inversion) Die woordorde van die gedig /versreel is
doelbewus verander om te beklemtoon (the word order of the poem /line is purposely
changed to emphasize )
• Ironie(irony ) Die teenoorgestelde van wat verwag word , gebeur ( the opposite that is
expected happens )
• Klanknabootsing ( onomatopoeia) wanneer ’n klank of geluid deur middel van woorde
uitgedruk word (when a sound is expressed in terms of words )
• Kontras /Antitese( Anthitesis) twee dinge met teenoorgestelde betekenis /eienskappe staan
teenoor mekaar (two hints with opposite meaning /qualities are opposing each other )
• Denonatiewe betekenis (denotation ) Dit wat daar geskryf is , word bedoel met geen
verskuilde betekenis nie ( what was written is meant with no hidden meaning )
• Limeriek (limerick ) ’n Tipe digvrom met 5 versreels en ’n aabba rymskema ( a type of
poem with 5 lines an aabba rhyme scheme
