WHAT IS SOCIAL MEDIA?
Social Media is a website or an application that lets people share content such as videos and pictures
to others. People can use social media for a variety of purposes including promotion, posts to make
people laugh plus to contact business acquaintances or stay in touch with friends and family.



TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA
LINKEDIN
Description of LinkedIn
LinkedIn was formed in 2002 by Reid Hoffman, Allen Blue, Konstantin Guericke, Eric Ly and Jean-Luc
Vaillant. It has over 310 million monthly active users making it one of the smaller social media sites
when you compare it to others. It was first created to let users have a platform to post their resumes
too, this would help people get jobs and let their colleagues recommend them to let others know
they are professional and trustworthy.



Creating Contacts on LinkedIn
One way you can create contacts on LinkedIn is by adding a personalized message to a connection
request. If you send a connection request it means you want to be in contact with that person, so
sending one with a message shows the person that you have spent time to write them a message,
explaining to them why you would like to talk to them.

Another way to create contacts is to talk with existing contacts. It’s good making new connections
but if you’re not staying in contact with existing ones, then they might decide to disconnect from
you. Also, existing contacts can put in a word for you. say you want to contact a specific person, if
you stay in frequent contact with others it might turn out that they can help you get talking with
them.

The final way to create contacts on LinkedIn is to use keywords on your profile. If another user is
trying to find somebody for a job that you know a lot about, adding keywords relating to that job will
help them find you more efficiently.



Mobile and website integration for LinkedIn
LinkedIn can be accessed via the website and on mobile devices. However, certain features cannot
be accessed on the LinkedIn app such as managing company pages, instead the user will have to log
into LinkedIn on a web browser to access them. Using LinkedIn’s website on a phone instead of the
application could be frustrating at times because it has not been designed for a mobile device and it
has a frequent habit of the page refreshing.

LinkedIn is the least large social media platform out of the five talked about, this could be because it
is specifically for people to do business on which limits the demographic of people who want to use
it.
LinkedIn is also the least most used on mobile phones which is surprising because people who
conduct business are moving from one place to another to get too meetings, them using LinkedIn on
their phone would be an advantage as they can get messages from others wherever they are.
LinkedIn is fourth for the average time spent on the platform, this makes sense as users of the
platform wouldn’t be on the site for very long as they would just be looking at their messages which
only takes a couple of minutes to do. If users were on the platform for an extended amount of time
it would not be very often as they might just be browsing through another user’s profile to get
educated with who they are and what they do as a job.
LinkedIn’s users use the platform the most between work hours. This is because the people that use
the platform use the platform while they’re working to connect with their business associates and
others outside of the organisation. This impacts businesses on the platform because this is a short
time frame in which the highest number of users are on the platform, so if a business wants to take
advantage of this they will have to post quickly.
LinkedIn’s male and female users are third for using the platform out of the five talked about, this is
due to the people on the site are on there to get a job or to talk to colleges which both genders can
do.
LinkedIn’s users have the least amount of people between the ages of 16 and 24, this is because
users are looking to create their own business professionally and this age range are the least likely to
want to do this.

The main type of content on LinkedIn is Informative Posts. These posts are made to let followers
know what the business is doing, also they can be used to inform followers of upcoming events. An
