The first solution is to give each table a tablet so, customers can order without a waiter being
present. The order will be digitally sent to the computer where the chefs can view all the orders.
When the meal has been prepared, it will be sent to the customer. The advantage with this solution
is that it is easier for customers to order their meal because they will be able to do it at their tables.
This reduces the need for lots of waiters, therefore saving Rodri’s money. The disadvantage with this
solution is the tablet is subject to being stolen or damaged. If this happens, it could be costly for the
organization to replace it.
The second solution is to give the waiters a tablet each. The waiter would go to a table and take their
order. The waiter could go to another table straight away while the previous order is digitally sent to
the computer, where the chefs can view all the orders. When the meal has been prepared, it will be
sent to the customer. The advantage with this method is the tablets are more secure with the
waiters as they will have training on how to handle them. The disadvantage with this method is
customers would have to wait for a waiter to serve them.
The most suitable solution to choose from is the second solution. I chose to go with the second
solution over the first because the waiters would be responsible for the device’s safety. Solution one
offers more efficiency to customers getting their meals. However, it comes at a cost which is the
device being vulnerable to damages and stealing. This could result in Rodri’s regularly buying and
replacing the affected devices, which would be very expensive for the business. The second solution
reduces the expense by only allowing the waiters to use the devices. This would reduce the devices
risk to damage as the device will not be on the same table as the customers drinks. The waiters will
be walking around with the devices which exposes their risk to being dropped. So, they will get
training on how to properly handle them to decrease the number of mistakes that happen. Rodri’s
will make money more efficiently than their old system and once their business has found success,
they could simply adapt their business to allow customers to order from their tables.
Feasibility Study
Description of Products and Services
As Rodri’s current system is outdated, they want a new, efficient IT system to store and manage
their data. Once they have successfully updated their system, they want to update their website to
include online restaurant reservations, add technology to order their dinners from their tables and
introducing a computerized menu board for their customers. This new system would benefit the
organization because they can serve more customers a day. This is a benefit for them because they
can make more money at a quicker rate. Another reason it would benefit the organization is how
quickly the orders come through to the chefs. Unlike a waiter writing the order down and walking to
the chef, once the customer has finished ordering, there is a very little delay between them pressing
the order button and the chefs starting to prepare it. This removes the need for a person to take the
written order to the kitchen where the handwriting could be illegible, or the paper gets lost. This
new system would benefit their customers because they would have the power to order without
leaving their tables. The new feature would encourage customers to visit the restaurant as they will
not have to wait for a waiter to take their order, they could order as soon as they get a table. The
next benefit for the customers is being able to order their food online. This is a significant
advancement because now they do not have to wait in line to place their order, they can decide
what they want before they go out and have a relaxing time at the restaurant.
