Argumentative essay
Do you know how often people use social media in a day? In today’s generation with the
advancement of technology, social media has become a part of people’s life as well as for
students. It can be seen that people who used to like socialising face to face at earlier times when
social media did not exist, have now changed their way of interacting with people. This is mostly
the case for students in modern times. Therefore, social media has a negative effect towards
interpersonal skill among students because it diminishes the interaction of face to face, develops

Firstly, there is an adverse effect on interpersonal skills among students. Students who have
strong interpersonal skills are most likely not using the skills due to social media like Facebook,

cell phones and 25% of them use social media. For example, often at parties or events young
adults or students are attached to their smartphones, texting instead of using their interpersonal
skills in person. Hence, social media diminishes the communication skills face to face.

case when students are too busy online texting through Facebook messenger using shortened
versions like “ttyl” “ur” “k” and so on to quickly deliver their messages which completely ruins
their grammar and syntax and also develops the use of slang words. Furthermore, students often
carelessly use these short forms in their essay writings which results in a poor performance. A lot
of students tend to use slang words to their peers while interacting in person due to the influence
of social media while texting. This is happening nowadays unlike many years ago when social
media did not exist. Based on research, 80% of youngsters in America find it difficult to learn
and retain full spellings. Therefore, social media has the ability to also affect a student’s
academic performance.
Some people argue that social media has a positive effect towards interpersonal skill among
students because they think it improves their friendship and also makes them socialise. However,
