of skills and knowledge
In this task I will participate in a recruiting interview and demonstrate analytical responses and
questioning to allow assessment of skills and knowledge. I will participate as an interviewer as well as an
interviewee; for this I will be doing research tips on how to conduct a proper interview. I will be
answering interview questions and as an interviewer I will be asking interview questions.
First, in order to be a good interviewer I will prepare myself in a formal manner and plan the interview.
One of the most important ways of being a good interviewer is by preparing well, this includes reading
the candidate’s resume, reviewing any work samples that the candidate submitted, checking the job
description again to make sure you can discuss the role and its requirements and prepare a list of
questions to ask which are relevant to the job role such as “What experience do you have?”; this
question is suitable for the store manager job role as being a good manager requires good experience.
Another question I included was “Give me an example of a time when you set a goal and were able to
meet or achieve it”, this is a good question as the store manager will require to do a lot of tasks and be
able to meet them on deadline. Therefore this question asks for a real life past scenario which would
help the interviewer to understand if the candidate is capable of being a good store manager at Tesco.
Overall I was able to create good questions as the questions directly related to the job description of the
store manager. Secondly, in order to be a good interviewer I would show care towards the candidate,
this included opening on a positive note, focusing on the conversation, answering questions and being
time effective1. This would allow the candidate to feel comfortable and answer the questions therefore
showing their full potential.
These are my interview questions:
1) Tell me about yourself
2) Give me an example of a time when you set a goal and were able to meet or achieve it
3) Can you tell us about Tesco’s core values?
4) Why do want to work with us
5) What skills and techniques have you adapted to train and develop in order to work with other staff
6) What experience do you have?
7) Tell me about a recent situation in which you had to deal with a very upset customer or co-worker
8) How did you find this job?
9) Why do you want this job?
10) What strengths do you have adapted that makes you suitable for the store manager role and how
have you applied it before
These questions are very suitable for an interview as it allows the interviewee to express their
knowledge and skills. These questions are directly related to the role of a store manager therefore when
the interviewee answers the questions the interviewer will be able to identify the skills, qualities and
characteristics required for the store manager role therefore enabling them to recruit the most suitable
candidate for the job. These questions also ask for scenarios therefore this will allow the interviewer to
understand if the candidate has any previous experience as this is very important for a store manager
job.
