Between 1918 and 1932 Adolf Hitler steadily gained followers with his public speaking skills and his commanding authority (Brower, 2014). What set the stage for Hitler's party was the Depression. The unemployment numbers sky rocketed, and resentment grew. By 1932, close to a million Germans had been won over and joined the Nazis party. In the 1933 election, the Nazis party acquired 33% of the vote. In that same year the president elected Hitler as chancellor. This was the start to Hitler’s dictatorship. An example of how he was able to persuade the public to agree with his views was due to his speeches. The Proclamation to the German Nation is an example of Hitler’s great speeches. Factors In the Proclamation to the Germans, Hitler pointed out many factors that contributed to Germany’s problems. One factor which he blamed Germany’s problem was Communism (Proclamation to the German Nation, 1933). Communism is defined as a government that consist of a classless society in which resources are state owned and there is a redistribution of wealth (CES, n.d.). In the Proclamation to the German Nation, Hitler states that Communism was a method of madness. Communism only disrupted order and sent the nation into chaos by attacking it and ultimately breaking it (Proclamation to the German Nation, 1933). He claimed that it threatened everything that the German nation is about such as its faith, morality, business, justice, and honor (Proclamation to the German Nation, 1933). Another factor he continuously blamed was the previous fourteen years of Marxist government. He blamed the thousand wounded and hundred deaths due to Marxism (Proclamation to the German Nation, 1933). Hitler exclaimed in the proclamation that the nation gave Marxism fourteen years to prove it’s worth and all it did was ruin their nation (Proclamation to the German Nation, 1933). Starvation,
