A, Inc. was created in 1994 and is headquartered in Seattle, Washington (2018). Amazon sells items through resale from vendors and as well as offer third- party sellers through their websites. A, Inc. also produces and sells electronic devices, including Kindle e-readers, Fire tablets, Fire TVs, and Echo. They also provide services such as Kindle Direct Publishing, an online service that allows independent authors and publishers to make their books available in the Kindle Store (2018). The company offers several other ways that allow sellers to sell their product on Amazon, as well as their own branded websites. These programs allow for others to publish their products and use Amazon as a way to distribute their content such as music, books, films as well as app developers. A, Inc. also recently purchased Whole Foods Market, Inc. Additionally, the company offers a service called Amazon Prime. This is an annual membership program, which provides free two-day shipping of various items and access to unlimited streaming of movies and TV episodes. A, Inc. is less known for their generation electricity through company-owned wind farms and solar projects (2018). A, Inc. also produces and sells items under the brand AmazonBasics. As the name points out, this service offers basic items that a person might need. According to their website, their focus is on high-quality products at a low-price to the customer (Amazon, n.d.). AmazonBasics would be considered a house brand for A, Inc. that focuses on the everyday essentials, from cables to batteries to bed sheets to dinnerware (Amazon, n.d.). According to Amazon (n.d.), they will try to improve the product if you let them know about items that need to be improved upon by writing a review of the product. According to Murphy (2017), the AmazonBasics brand was launched in 2009. This is 15 years after the start of A, Inc. Mission Statement Amazon’s mission statement provides the company’s vision of providing their customers with a wide variety of items online with the lowest prices available (Amazon, n.d.). Their mission promotes an increasing cyber market that allows businesses to advertise new products at competitive prices (Isckia and Lescop, 2009
