Imagine that you are a public health nurse, and you and your colleagues have determined that the threat of a deadly new strain of influenza indicates a need for a mass inoculation program in your community. What public health data would have been used to determine the need for such a program? Where would you locate public health data? What data will be collected to determine the success of such a program? How might you communicate this to other communities or internationally? (CO 1,2,4,5, 6,7,8) What public health data would have been used to determine the need for such a program? One best place public health data is the CDC. The CDC will provide information about the disease and threats it poses to the community or regional health and prevention. When looking through the site, one may see reports on the effectiveness of vaccines which will determine if the program is successful. It is even broken down by different periods of time so you can see if it was our mass inoculation program that caused those specific results. What data will be collected to determine the success of such a program? For example, data such as the CDC Influenza Season Week 44 ending November 3, 2018, can be used. And it reported that Influenza activity in the United States remains low, although small increases in activity were reported. Influenza A (H1N1) pdm09, influenza A (H3N2), and influenza B viruses continue to co-circulate, with influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses reported most commonly by public health laboratories since September 30, 2018 (CDC). How might you communicate this to other communities or internationally? According to the textbook Planning starts with the understanding of the involved community, the population density, age and gender distribution, socioeconomic status, available transportation, and languages spoken. So starting locally will be the best approach and later can go internationally (McGonigle & Mastrain, 2018). After I analysis, and determine whether the submission is appropriate and effective and then the report will be posted on the site. Anyone internationally may be able to view this information. You may also communicate this information by publishing it and submitting to the World Health Organization. McGonigle, D., & Mastrian, K. (2018).
