The material of this course book is visibly structured and seems to be
organised in a logical order. This gives students the ability to work on activities
that are well referenced, and study from the book independently as required.
The language in Unit 1 gradually becomes more challenging and is suitably
graded for the target audience (which can be seen from the various language
levels used throughout the unit). The course book offers a variety of activities
or exercises for students to practise new skills and to later revise what they’ve
learnt. There was no mention of a teacher’s guide or memorandum, but some
extra teaching material (e.g., audio files) is included.
Additional activities and material are available in the form of audio files,
although not referenced is expected to be in the CD that accompanies the
book. Therefore, students are therefore self-directed and able to work on their
own.
At first glance the information the content layout and graphics seem to crowd
out the text material, but in general, the material appears well-organised. A
larger font size and few pictures could be easier on the eye to an EFL student.
Students are encouraged to use four skills throughout the activities which also
includes a fair balance of the important language development areas. The
exercises prompt students to attempt dialogues with a partner, which
promotes speaking and listening skills. There was no way of checking the
authenticity of the audio, but the text does come across as genuine.
The material demonstrated in unit 1 does not require any cultural background
which makes it fair to any students that may use the course book. This course
book does not seem to be inclusive of any tests other than the general
activities. The scope/ contents page provides a brief vocabulary list, but it is
unlikely going to help any students who want to quickly revise or double-check
