A lot of initial hard work is needed to establish these techniques and principles, but once in place, they prove to be an extremely powerful, almost indispensable tool for solving a variety of problems in analysis. Initial efforts at mastering these principles will be well rewarded. This module builds on previous knowledge and skills and to fully appreciate the theory, you will need some geometric insight. If you try to learn this material “parrot fashion”, you may just scrape a pass, but you will neither be able to appreciate the beauty of this theory, nor be able to exploit its power. I therefore want to challenge you not to waste any time, but to commence with your studies at the beginning of the semester, work consistently and enjoy the module.
