1. What historical and theoretical foundations have influenced collaborative school consultation? School consultation appears to have been created in the 1970s in the mental health field. Mental health services have driven into the educational settings along with school psychologists collaborated with teachers. (Knackendoffel, Dettmer, & Thurston 2018). The Education for All Handicapped Child Act law was implemented in 1990 and modernized as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. This law had an astonishing, promising impact on millions of children with disabilities in every state and local community across the country. This act formed its law that students with disabilities should be placed in the least restrictive environment, for their learning. By means of this several students with disabilities place in the general education classroom. In the aftermath, when the law passed, that educators should no longer place individuals with disabilities in a specific school or self-contained classroom. Due to these numerous students with disabilities was placed into general education classroom demanding general education teachers to collaborate with special educators for assessments and strategies. (Hernandez 2019) In 1980 endorsement about teacher consultations were established. Lev Vygotsky recommended that work together along with responsibility is the success of each student. 2. What positive outcomes can result from well-implemented collaborative school consultations? Well-implemented collaborative school consultations benefit whenever educators work together. (Mattall, Power, 2019). Collaboration supports along with enhancing teacher practice and student success. General and special education teachers both work together towards a common goal purpose together with a shared plan, which is profitable. Developing a complete child approach of how the student is being educated along with how their disability has been administered. Utilizing the groundwork of how professionals will work together to embed team up for success for later generations. Although the students will evolve, the process of how they were taught and measured will remain the same in general along with team members will be content in how each of them benefits the students’ needs. IEP goals may be written together, however, every member of the team likely common with what is being learned and how the student is accomplishing.
