CIC2602
COMPUTER INTERGRATION IN THE CLASSROOM
DUE DATE: 30 JULY 2021
, 1.1. Discuss the importance of integrating technology in teaching and learning.
Computers are a brilliant aid in teaching distance learning, giving students more
opportunities for feedback, reflection and revision.
Computer technology has made the dream of distance learning a reality. Where it was
limited to the classroom before, education now has free bounds to take place
anywhere, thanks to the vast development of technology.
Even if students and teachers don’t have the ability to be physically present in the
same premises, they can still communicate – and even see – each other.
Lessons can be recorded and distributed to learners who (for various reasons) might
have missed a class, making it possible to catch up and not fall behind on work.
This saves a lot of time of trying to help learners catch up with the other students in
the classroom and even enhances the learning process, because nothing was missed.
Feedback can be provided at any time, making it possible for the students to
communicate with the teacher and solve possible issues or queries they might have.
Computer software helps present information in a better way by bringing exciting
curricula in the classroom and also providing tools to enhance learning, such as
visualisation and audio tools.
The internet can play an important role in education as it is a basis for an enormous
amount of information and learning materials for a countless variety of subjects.
Teachers can use the internet to supplement their lessons with additional information
and students can also refer to web sources for additional information on subjects.
Using visual and audio aids from the internet in the classroom can help capture and
hold the learners’ attention, making the lesson more interesting for them, ultimately
causing the obtaining of information more fun.
Hard drives and other storage devices, even cloud storage are excellent ways to store
data:
Computers are used in networking, for information access and data storage, as well as
in the processing and presenting of information.
It’s a better alternative than having to use physical papers, that take up space and can
get lost or deteriorate over time, to store information. It also saves a lot of time.
Computer technology appeals to a variety of learning styles:
Computers facilitate audio-visual representation of information, thus making the
process of learning interactive and interesting. Computer-aided teaching adds a fun
element to education.
Different elements such as pictures, moving visuals, colour and sounds appeals more
