Importance of a Human Resource Department
The structure of an HR department depends on factors such as the size of the organization, employer growth, culture, organizational structure, strategy, industry, and client needs. As the needs of the organization grow, the employer may choose to expand the HR department to provide in-depth support to various HR areas of responsibility, such as recruiting, benefits, compensation, and other tasks. Other cost-effective strategies could include outsourcing some HR activities in alignment to the organization’s mission and goals. Overall, HR professionals should create a plan and communicate with senior management to prioritize specific action items based on organization needs. HR teams can assist managers in developing an actionable timeline to include anticipated results by classifying actions as high, medium, and low priority. HR professionals should be deliberate and specific when presenting plans to senior management and prepare to answer questions and concerns with real solutions. A quality HR department should also briefly and directly discuss how the plan of action will affect the bottom line by demonstrating the importance and benefits the human resource department provides in relation to productivity, increased business, reduced liability, employee satisfaction, and profitability.
