ATI TEAS Study Guide
R.1.5 Identify specific information from a printed communication. This objective includes, but is not limited to, the following examples of knowledge, skills, and abilities. • Use printed communications (e.g., memos, posted announcements, classified ads). • Find relevant information. • Recognize various parts of printed communications. The Latin definition of communication is the root communis, meaning to make common, impart, inform, and share. Printed communication, such as memos, announcements, and advertisements fulfill this definition. Many types of printed communication join together people who have common interests, and share information amongst those that desire further detail. It is beneficial to understand how to discern relevant information and recognize the text structures of printed communication. The TEAS will test how well you can find the information you need from these types of communications. A memo, though more informal that other printed communication, is usually concise and grammatically correct. The formal format results from the audience usually being internal (business staff members, school colleagues, etc.). Correct conventions are important because the information is usually business-oriented. See a sample memo and descriptions below
