,Inhoud
Epithelia ................................................................................................................................................... 2
Glands ...................................................................................................................................................... 6
Connective tissue: ................................................................................................................................... 8
Cartilage & Bones .................................................................................................................................. 16
Bone: ..................................................................................................................................................... 22
Muscle tissue: ........................................................................................................................................ 24
The nervous system............................................................................................................................... 31
,Epithelia
Functions:
- Covering, lining, protection and transport along the surface of the epithelium (respiratory)
- Absorption (intestine) (must go through the cell)
- Secretion (glands, exocrine & endocrine)
Collagen fibers links the epithelial part of the basal membrane to the connective tissue part of the
basal membrane.
Function basement membrane:
- Attachment
- Filtration (kidney)
- Regulation cell division and differentiation of epithelial cell (through binding of growth
factors)
, Categorisation of epithelia: Shape of cells and numbers of layers
Keratinized: skin, non-keratinized: lines of esophagus.
Single squamous: eg blood vessels, flat nucleus and flat cytoplasm.
Cuboidal: kidney and nefron. Nuclei is round. Cell membranes are not stained well and nuclei does.
The shape can you determine what kind of epithelium.
Columnor: elongated, tall cells.
In 1 epithelium you can find many different cell types.
Duodenum: villi are lined by epithelium. Recognize the brush border (microvilli) membrane and
basement membrane.
Colon: more goblet cells. Differ in shapes.
