Forces in Everyday Life (Week 7) Model or Topic Explored: You will create a demonstration of either the free particle (sum of the forces is equal to zero) or constant force particle (sum of the forces is equal to mass x acceleration). You have several different options to choose from to create a scenario, or you may develop one of your own to look at the force balance. Name: Amy Marchen Date: 12/01/2017 Observables: Unit/Force sensor is attached to a string, string is attached to a weight (box), the unit moves faster and faster (acceleration) Measureables: F (sum of forces, N), a (acceleration, m/s/s, or m/ s 2 ¿ , m (mass of the unit, kg) Constants: First experiment = mass of iOLab unit will be constant Second Experiment = sum of forces will be constant (weight in box) Problem Statement: First experiment = How does acceleration depend on F? (keeping mass of unit constant) Second experiment = How does acceleration depend on m? (keeping sum of forces constant) Prediction: I think the acceleration will be directly proportional to the magnitude of F. Also, the acceleration will be inversely proportional to mass of the unit.
