correct pronunciation of English words and have learnt new vocabulary that he will utilize
in the work environment especially applying for a job and social platforms.

Course Rationale: (700 – 1000 words)

Here you need to include:

• why you have chosen this syllabus type
I have decided to choose a combination of skills-based syllabus and topic-based syllabus as
the Skills based syllabus will help the student to enhance his strengths and import skills to
achieve his aims like building an effective communication skill. His primarily focus will be on
activities that will improve his listening, speaking and writing skills that will elevate his
abilities as in correct pronunciation of English words in order to cater for his needs such as
applying for a job or to get a promotion in his native country and socialising. The Topic
based syllabus is content based and will spark the student’s interest enabling him to enjoy
the learning process all the while improving his English level and skills. Vocabulary forms
parts of this syllabus identity and for the student to maintain conversation in an appropriate
form, he must obey conversation rules. It will teach him good strategies and micro-skills as
well.

• why you have chosen the topic(s) covered
The topics are directly derived from the student’s interest and hobbies as per the
questionnaire and interview. I then linked it to his preference to integrate comical authentic
material that will enable him to not only enjoy the course but consigning the new knowledge
to his long-term memory. Topics include travel, work, socializing and technology.
All the activities are derived from these interests.

• why you have chosen this target language/skill
Based on the student’s needs as per the questionnaire he filled out and the interview he
wants to improve his English for progress / promotion reasons in his native Country’s
