TEACHING AND LEARNING COMMUNITY

,1.1 Professional learning communities – A method to foster learning among
teachers and to organize them into working groups and finding ways to improve
student’s outcomes.
1.2 Components
1. Learning
2. Collaboration
3. Results
1.3 (a) Learning – PLC should be a place where teachers and staff members work
together and learn from each other. Teachers should study a topic together and
figure out way they could use to apply their new learning that will benefit all the
learners. As part of development teachers attend conferences and professional
meetings. For those who cannot attend meeting, they should be given printed out
minutes of each meeting so that they are aware of what was happening.
Principals should make announcements every morning. Teachers learn from
each other and provide feedback by visiting each other’s classrooms, in this way
it helps to contribute to community and individual improvement. With the
principals encouragement teachers use their own newly acquired knowledge to
introduce additional units of study for students.
(b) Collaboration – Staff members should learn from each other by attending
professional-development offerings. The purpose of a PLC meeting is not just
about teachers getting together and sharing information but it is also about
meeting with each other to achieve goals for the grades they teach and for the
school. Being able to build and maintain a collaborative culture is the most
difficult aspect of PLC. Staff sharing their classroom practices help members to
have the opportunity to give and receive feedback that contributes to their
learning and development.
(c) Results – teachers respond to data instead of sharing it. This means
assessment of programs and common formative assessments in the school are

meeting is held, the focus is not on how the teacher performs but to see the
success of other teachers and how it can be shared amongst others. Principals
highly encourages collective learning and makes it clear that the expectations
are very high. This kind of learning is done by arranging time, schedules and the
structures to accommodate it. In PLC schools, the principal deals with difficult

, numbers concerning student’s performance and the respond to it. A vision of a
school evolves around the values of the staff and it is used as a guide in making
decisions about teaching and learning and its focus is also on the learners and
their success.
1.4 (a) It’s enables teachers to make significant decisions about their work and
the students. Teachers will also gain respect and also establish new goal that will
target their new knowledge and skills that are required for new practices. These
