The conditionals
1) First type
=> If + simple present, will/can/may/might +inf
Actions that possibly are going to happen
Examples: If you wash your hair with Dove, it will look great
2) Second type
=> If + simple past, would/could/might + inf
Actions that probably are not going to happen. The actions are possible but not very
probable
Examples: If I were you, I would do this
If I saved €200, we would have enough for an iPhone
3) 3rd type
=> If + past perfect, would/could/might+have +inf
Past situations that didn’t happen. Het is iets dat niet meer kan verander, ondanks je dat
wel zou willen
Examples: If I hadn’t been ill, I could have gone
