Class notes Neet/jee
Aromatic nitro compounds are organic compounds in which one or more nitro groups (–NO₂) are directly attached to an aromatic ring, usually a benzene ring. These compounds are important in organic chemistry, pharmaceuticals, dyes, and explosives manufacturing. The –NO₂ group is a strong electron-withdrawing group, which affects the reactivity and orientation of electrophilic substitution reactions in the aromatic ring. Common examples include nitrobenzene, dinitrobenzene, and trinitrotoluene (TNT). Aromatic nitro compounds are mainly prepared by the nitration reaction using concentrated nitric acid and sulfuric acid. They play a key role in NEET, JEE, and competitive chemistry exams, especially in topics related to electrophilic substitution, reduction reactions, and directing effects in benzene derivatives.
