Foreword
It was quite the exceptional experience to partake in teaching practice while in the midst of a
world-wide pandemic. There is a lot of uncertainty among the learners as well as among the
teachers.
I have new-found respect for teachers during this time. They have proved to be resilient and
to truly have the learners’ best interest at heart, because even though there was wide-
spread panic about a pandemic, the likes of which the world has never seen – the teachers
placed the needs, the safety and the education of the learners as first priority.
My experience at Hoërskool Douglas, working under Mrs. Rita Nel:
It was an honour to observe such an experienced and seasoned teacher as Mrs. Nel. She has
so much patience and understanding for the learners. Her knowledge on her subject (English)
is so impressive and she exhumes passion for what she does. I feel that I have learned so
much from her that I can take to heart. I definitely see her as a role model in teaching and
aim to be a great teacher like her when I start teaching.
